Man, life comes at your first, doesn’t it? Sorry it’s been a minute, but welcome back! In this post, I wanted to talk about a few random things I’ve stumbled upon and learned about recently. Technology moves fast, and I feel like I was out of the JavaScript bubble just long enough to miss a few key things. I really wish there was some kind of newsletter or something I could read so I can better keep up-to-date with things....
TLDR I played the NieR series this year and loved it. I watched probably too much anime. I got back into game dev. Welcome to the 2nd annual “stuff I played/watched/did/etc. in ”. This time, it’s 2023. What a year 😩 We had some ups, some downs, some plateaus, etc. but now it’s all over. I hope everyone reading has a great new year. Quick disclaimer for these lists: The “X I Enjoyed” doesn’t necessarily mean that the thing released this year, but it is the year I got around to enjoying it, whatever it was....
TLDR I finished the courses and now I’m moving on to other micro projects until I feel more comfortable doing bigger projects. The First Leg of the Journey Welcome back, readers. I’ve finally finished all of the courses from that Humble Bundle I mentioned in the previous blog. I feel much more confident in my abilities now. I’m currently at the Peak of “Mount Stupid”. Of course, I still have a long way to go, but I’ve gotten enough reps in at this point that I don’t feel completely lost when trying to do something....

Here we are. The end of another year. Unfortunately, I’ve been sick for most of the past 2 months, so I haven’t had a chance to get far enough ahead in my side projects to warrant another Dev Log. However, I did want to take a chance and talk about some video games. So, here’s my year in gaming, in no particular order. Another easy post? Oh, certainly, but again, this information is important to retain. ripgrep You have no idea (or maybe you do?) how useful this thing is. First of all, it’s incredibly fast. I’m sure this thing could find my birth certificate before I could find my glasses that are sitting on my face. helix You ever want to use vim but you don’t want to do the work of setting it up?...
Technology is an industry much like medicine. If you’re not constantly learning, you’re falling behind and potentially causing harm to your customers/patients. As a software engineer, there are a handful of things I do to try and stay up-to-date with tech and trends in the industry. YouTube This is probably the biggest and easiest one to do, though, you’ll need to find “your people”. I subscribe to a few channels that are either generic in their software content, or highly focused....
Is this an easy post to make? Sure, but it’s an important one, especially if my mind eraser frog is used against me. Anyways, here’s a list of my favorite VSCode extensions. Path intellisense This is so incredibly handy. I mean, all of them are, but still. It’s hard to remember paths, so this is a must have anytime I’m having to import {something} from 'some/path'. Code Runner Ever since I found this, I basically never use codepen or anything similar....

Late last year, I moved further away from the city because the area I was living in was infested with giant roaches. Earlier this year, I got engaged to my girlfriend of 5 years, and we’re getting married this November. I also got a new puppy as well back in February....
